Our Story
Our journey began in the 1970s when brothers John and Des McWilliam founded a sail-making company in Crosshaven, Co. Cork Ireland, inspired by the rugged spirit of the Irish coast. Recognizing the need for bags that could withstand the elements and keep sailors’ gear dry, they created McWilliam Bags—crafted by sailors, for sailors. In 2017, Clare Morgan and her husband Barry Hayes took over ownership, bringing fresh vision to the brand and expanding its reach beyond the sailing community to appeal to adventurers, families, and students alike.

Claire, whose passion for sailing is as deep as her expertise in business, once thrived in the fast-paced corporate world but found her true calling in the craftsmanship of McWilliam Bags.
Swapping the boardroom for the workshop, Claire brings a unique blend of adventure spirit and corporate acumen to the table, revitalizing our brand with each stitch and seam. Her love for the sea inspires not just our designs but also our commitment to the planet.
